Gratitude for Your Holiday Support with GiftCrowd

12/12/2025 11:41 pm

Our GiftCrowd event was a huge success! The PTO would like to thank our wonderful families for showing such meaning support to our teachers and staff this holiday season. The PTO presented the crossing guards and custodians with gifts from our HMS families. Your kindness and generosity truly makes a huge difference in our school community.

A Note from the HMS Teachers and Staff

12/12/2025 11:39 pm

Thank you to all who attended our PTO Meeting on Friday, where we learned about our middle schoolers brains and how to help them regulate some of their emotions and reactions. During our meeting we were surprised by many teachers who gave us a heartfelt message that we would like to share with you:

Hi Parents! We are here representing the whole staff today—from the front office to the way far 6th grade classrooms—and we basically have one main message: We think you guys are awesome.
We were all so touched by the recent GiftCrowd gifts. It wasn't just about the gifts themselves, but about the fact that you and the families took the time to do that for us. It made us feel incredibly appreciated and—honestly—just really seen. Let’s be honest, the staff is largely powered by the snacks you put in the lounge and those coffee carts and hot cocoa bars. To those of you who serve us dinner during conference and curriculum nights, you are literal life-savers. It’s hard to look professional when you’re 'hangry,' so thank you for keeping us fed and happy during those long hours!

We also see you everywhere else in the building: Helping a student find a 'must-read' at the Book Fair.  Brave enough to chaperone the dances (seriously, thank you for that). Making sure our 6th graders feel like they belong and our 8th graders get the big send-off they deserve.

From the quiet ways you support our families in need to the way you keep this building looking beautiful, you make this school so much more than just a place to work. You make it a community.

So, from all of us to all of you: Thank you for having our backs. We really, really appreciate you!

Fortnightly at the Community House

12/12/2025 11:01 pm

Fortnightly, now in its 68th year and run by The Community House, is a program for 8th grade students at HCHS's feeder schools. The program has the goals of teaching students basic dance steps, instructing them on ballroom etiquette, and, most importantly, building their confidence in social situations.

Fortnightly takes place across seven Fridays beginning March 20 and ending May 8 (two off-weeks), with three sessions each Friday. Additionally, on Saturday, May 9, there will be an optional event, Fortnightly: The Last Dance, to celebrate the end of the program.

Physical invitations are being mailed to all eligible students and should be arriving this week and next (please note, the physical invitation is a formality only and is not required to register). The Community House will also send registration info via email. Registration opens at 10:00am on Jan 23. Families are strongly encouraged to create a Community House account ahead of time in order to ensure a smooth registration experience.

Each session will initially open with 80 spots (40 boys / 40 girls), and, while you may not be placed into your preferred session, all students are guaranteed a spot in Fortnightly.

Keep an eye out for the invitation in your mailbox, come back here for additional updates in the coming weeks, and email fornightly@hmspto.org with any questions.

Please email molly_painter@yahoo.com if you are interested and there will be further instruction provided. Also, if you would not like a yard sign, please send an email to the same email above.
