Sparty Bites are Back! Volunteer Opportunity Available

Sparty Bites are a special treat that will be offered once a month during lunch to provide kids with a fun dessert option for $3 each. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the HMS PTO.

We will offer the following:
-Halloween themed chocolate covered pretzel rods (Oct 31st)
-Donut Holes (Nov 21st)
-Hot chocolate bar (Dec 19th and Jan 23rd)
-Chocolate covered strawberries (Feb 13th)
-Chocolate covered pretzel rods (Mar 26th)
-Donut Holes (Apr 23rd and May 21st)

8th Grade World Languages Field Trip

The 8th grade World Languages field trip will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2019. All students will leave
at 8:30 AM.
The 8th grade French classes (HMS & CHMS) will be going to the Art Institute to see the Impressionists collection
guided by a docent, and then to a French restaurant La Sardine in Chicago to experience a three-course meal. We
will leave school at 8:30 A.M. and return to school by 3:15 pm. If you have any questions regarding food
ingredients, call the restaurant directly at 312-421-2800 or check the website www.lasardine.com. Contact Ms.
Patris if you have any questions regarding the French field trip.

The 8th grade Spanish classes (and students not enrolled in a world language) will be going to a Latin Rhythms dance performance and then to a restaurant to experience an authentic taste of Mexico at Las Palmas in Westmont. The students will enjoy a buffet of authentic Mexican foods. We will leave school around 8:30 A.M. and return before 3:00 p.m.

Hinsdale Falcons Youth Football Night – Friday, October 11th

Hinsdale Central Football would like to invite all middle school students in the Hinsdale Central attendance area to attend this Friday’s football game free of charge.  Join them in a “Salute to Service – Military and First Responders Night”.

A few years ago, clinical neuropsychologist William Stixrud, Ph.D. and teen motivational coach Ned Johnson started noticing the same problem from different angles: Even high-performing kids were coming to them acutely stressed and lacking motivation. They co-authored a book, The Self-Driven Child, combining cutting-edge brain science, the latest discoveries in behavioral therapy, and case studies drawn from thousands of kids and teens. In this presentation, they will discuss today’s common stressors and describe compassionate, concrete solutions to help children of all ages move from feelings of powerlessness to purpose, ready to take on new challenges on the real road to success.

Internet Safety Program for Parents at the Hinsdale Public Library

Are you concerned about your children’s internet use? Do you worry they are spending too much time on the internet? Do you worry whether they are safe? Join us on October 9 at the Hinsdale Public Library for this important discussion on helping your children build healthy and safe internet habits. Licensed Counselor Susan Stutzman will provide useful information for parents to help guide you as you navigate the internet with your children. Parent-To-Parent: Building Healthy and Safe Internet Habits will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room. Register to attend at hinsdalelibrary.info.

D181 Foundation Hosts Documentary Film “Like”

The D181 Foundation is funding and hosting presentations of the documentary film “Like.” The film is going to be shown to all middle school students during the school day on October 2nd.  There will also be two showings for parents on Thursday night, October 3rd , 7pm at CHMS and Friday morning, October 4th 9:30am at The Community House. The programs are open to the entire community, but registration is required. Children are welcome to attend with their parents.  The film is appropriate for any child that uses social media. Liz Repking from Cyber Security Consulting will be leading a follow-up discussion and Q&A after the film.
