Important digital concepts will be reviewed. Tips for managing technology in the home will be reviewed. Other topics that will be discussed include social media, student digital privacy legislation, and technology addiction. Randy will end the session with parenting tips and resources.

Halloween Guidelines at HMS

Please be aware that Hinsdale Middle School does not specifically observe Halloween or encourage students to wear costumes, although they are allowed. If a student dresses in a costume they must follow the guidelines below:

  • No Props – such as brooms, wands, knives, etc.
  • No Masks
  • No Fake Blood
  • No Aerosol Cans or Silly String
  • Normal Footwear
  • Limited Face Make-up… We need the ability to identify the student.
  • School Appropriate Costume – Non-Offensive – No longer than Ankle Length
  • Hats – Only if it goes with the costume
  • Makeup and Hair Spray needs to be applied BEFORE arriving at school.
  • Candy and treats should not be brought to school or provided at school due to state and district food guidelines.

Students will be referred to the office who have not followed the guidelines listed above, and run the risk of being asked to change. Please contact Mr. May, Assistant Principal, if you have any questions or concerns.

Shoe Drive for the O’Brien School in Tanzania

HMS will be collecting shoes for the O’Brien School in Tanzania over the next two weeks. The O’Brien School is dedicated to helping the children of the Masai, a community that is impoverished with few resources. Many students walk several miles each way to school over very hard terrain. At times they are forced to fashion shoes out of old car tires and strap them to their feet. To help these students, we are accepting shoes of all sizes to donate to their school. Closed toed shoes, please – no sandals. All shoes need to be dropped off by November 13th.

We will have a collection box in the foyer of the school for any shoes you would like to drop off. Thank you!
