Back to School Day is THIS FRIDAY, August 17th

During this open house event, middle school students and their parents will be able to pick up their class schedules and bus route information, as well as ‘walk’ their new schedules. Students can bring in their pre-ordered school supplies and set up their lockers. They can also pick up pre-ordered science goggles, hall/gym locks and P.E. uniforms.

The school nurse will be available to collect medications and completed sports physical forms. All families are encouraged to bring in any necessary medications on this day.

Returning 7th and 8th graders should bring the following items so they are ready for the first day of school: red hall lock, blue gym lock, gym uniform, calculator and French or Spanish dictionary.

The PTO will be taking last minute PTO registrations and sharing volunteer opportunities. New Spirit Wear items will be available for sale. The PTO accepts cash, check or credit card. You can also skip the lines and register on SchoolPay for the PTO  (after you log into SchoolPay look on the left for the Non-Profit tab) for the 2018-19 school year. If you cannot access your SchoolPay account or find HMS PTO Dues under Non-Profits, you may register at this alternate link.

Suggested time frames for each grade to visit HMS are listed below. Lines tend to be longest at the beginning of each grade’s time frame slot, so feel free to arrive a bit later if your schedule allows. Students must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

8:30 am – 10:00 am: 8th graders
10:00 am – 11:30 am: 7th graders
12:30 pm – 2:30 pm: 6th graders

Volunteers are a critical part of making Back To School Day a success. If you are able to help out, please use the Signup Genius link below.  Thank you in advance for your assistance!

School Supplies

Students who ordered school supplies through our online vendor should have received a kit delivered to their home in the last couple of weeks. If you ordered through EPI but did not receive your kit, please call Thera Piscetola at EPI on (630) 246-2344 and have your emailed order confirmation ready for her reference.

Students may put supplies in their assigned locker on Back to School Day August 17 or during the approved “visiting hours” referenced in Rocky May’s email dated August 7.

These kits include some items requested by teachers such as tissues or paper towels that need to be delivered to your child’s “home base” classroom on the first day of school. Home base classrooms will be listed on your student’s class schedule to be received August 17. Please check the link below and go to menu item School Supplies 2018/19 to see the items requested by teachers at your students’ grade level (school supply lists may also be found under the Resources section on the HMS PTO website.)

https://www.d181.org/schools/hinsdale-middle-school/parent-resources

Students who did not purchase through the online vendor may refer to the same above link to print a supply list by grade for individual purchase. The PTO only orders a handful of extra kits that can be requested by students who may have moved in to the district over the summer. If you are a summer “move in” please contact schoolsupplies@hmspto.org to request one of those kits.

Thank You!

We hope you are enjoying the start of summer vacation. We would like to take a minute to thank everyone who chaired or volunteered on a PTO committee this past year. We are grateful for your support and the time you dedicated to enhancing the middle school experience of our students. If you have a recent 8th grade graduate, congratulations and best wishes to them in high school. To those of you with children starting their first year at HMS in the fall, we extend a warm welcome.

This will be our last eblast until we start back up at the end of July. In the meantime, please feel free to visit our website at www.hmspto.org for any information you might need. We look forward to seeing you at Back To School Day on Friday, August 17th. Until then, we wish you all a fun, relaxing and safe summer.

Best regards,
Alice Waverley & Karin Rohn
PTO Co-Presidents
