Activities Fair

From 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20th, Hinsdale Middle School will be hosting its annual Activities Fair in the Commons. Cross Country athletes will be dismissed early in order to have the ability to attend. At this event, all of the different clubs and activities will make themselves available to recruit members and share information.

Clubs are still taking shape at this time, and the final list will be shared in the PTO Newsletter on Sunday, September 24th. We encourage all students to get involved, and hope to see you there! Please contact Mr. May with any questions .

 

8th Grade MAP This Week

On Tuesday, October 3rd and Wednesday, October 4th, Hinsdale Middle School will be administering the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) to all 8th grade students during their regularly scheduled Language Arts classes. Attendance will be extremely important on these dates, since these results will be shared with Hinsdale Central High School, where they will be used, along with other measures, to help determine 9th grade classes for 2018-2019. The journey for the Class of 2022 begins! Please save these dates! Please contact Mr. May if you have any questions or concerns.

 

Hinsdale Central Class of 2022 Information

Information regarding starting the enrollment process at Hinsdale Central for the Class of 2022 was recently sent to all 8th Grade families via email. If you did not receive this email, please contact Jennifer Regnier at jregnier@hinsdale86.org for the information. We want to make sure all families planning to send their student on to Hinsdale Central receive this important information!

Secondary School Fair at Avery Coonley

There is a Secondary School Fair being held on Tuesday, October 3rd from 7:00-9:00 pm at The Avery Coonley School, 1400 Maple Ave., Downers Grove. Parents will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from over 60 boarding schools covering 19 states and Canada and several private and parochial high schools in and around the Chicago area. All but one of the ten schools will be present as well as Chicago Lab, St. Ignatius and many more. The Fair is open to the public and is free of charge. PTO Meeting: Tuesday, September 12th at 9:00am

Our first PTO general meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 12th at 9AM in the MRC. We will receive an update on the construction of the new HMS building from both the construction company Bulley & Andrews and architectural firm Cordovan Clark. Find out about the project timeline, see drawings of the school’s proposed exterior and interior layout, discuss traffic flow patterns, parking and more. There will be time for questions and answers. All HMS parents as well as 5th grade elementary feeder school parents are welcome to attend.

Paid parking is available in the new parking lot between Washington and Lincoln Streets. You can walk along 3rd Street to Garfield and enter the HMS building through the main office doors. We look forward to seeing you on the 12th!

Please Verify Directory Information

Every HMS family should have received an email from Hinsdale Middle School PTO – Directory September 1st asking for verification of information.  If you did not receive it, please check your Junk Folder first.  When you open the email,  please take a moment and verify your family information (even if you have already verified your information for an elementary school directory). AtoZ will make you change your password.  You can choose to enter the same password as last year if you wish.   We would like to deliver directories by early October, but cannot publish the directory until all families have verified their information. Early Bird Discount for Rotary Run Ends on 9/15

The Rotary Run Charity Classic is set for Sunday, October 15th, and for the last six years, Hinsdale Middle School has won the “Mr. K” Cup as the D181 middle school with the highest percentage of participation. DAR American History Essay Contest

A message from the HMS Social Studies Department

Join the DAR American History Essay Contest celebrating the 100th anniversary of WWI. This opportunity is available to 6th-8th graders.
Participants compete on the Chapter, District, State and National levels. Each level has a monetary award, along with a certificate and/or medal.

Attached is a rubric of essay requirements.

Please note that essays must be received by midnight on December 1 to qualify.
