This Monday, August 14th is Back to School Day and the New HMS Groundbreaking Ceremony. The schedule for the day is as follows:
- 8:30-10:15am: HMS 6th graders
- 10:15–11:45am: HMS 7th graders
- 12pm-1:15pm: Groundbreaking Ceremony (BTSD Stations Closed)
- 1:15-3pm: HMS 8th graders
Students can pick up schedules, bring in school supplies, set up lockers, pick up science goggles, hall/gym locks and P.E. uniforms. The school nurse will be available to collect medications and completed sports physical forms, and 8th graders can turn in their Washington DC forms.

Parking and Drop-Off <<CLICK HERE FOR IMPORTANT MAP>>
Due to HMS construction and road repair, parking is limited, so families are encouraged to carpool. Attendees can park in the temporary Washington Street lot or on the street where permitted; this map view shows parking and entrances. Parents are encouraged to drop off their students with school supplies at the back entrance (North side of the building, also known as the Dolphin Door), prior to proceeding to park. Head east on 2nd street from Lincoln, turn left on Washington, enter the back parking lot, and drive around the portable units to the back door. Please note that walkers will not be able to enter this back parking lot. After parking, families must enter through the front entrance on the Garfield side.
Additional Building Opening Hours
We understand that some families will not be able to attend Back to School Day on Monday. Additionally, the portables will not be accessible on Monday, August 14th. As a result, HMS will be open other times before school, so that students may pick up their schedules and organize their lockers. Opening times are as follows:
- Tuesday, August 15th 12:00 – 3:00 PM, OFFICE OPEN, BUILDING OPEN
- Wednesday, August 16th 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM, OFFICE OPEN, BUILDING OPEN
- Thursday, August 17th BUILDING OPEN FROM 3 – 5 PM
- Friday, August 18th BUILDING OPEN FROM 3 – 5 PM
- Monday, August 21st BUILDING OPEN FROM 3 – 5 PM
