Spartan Shack Update

As your child might have told you by now, the Spartan Shack has changed significantly. Instead of selling predominantly candy and opening on a daily basis, the Shack will now only be open during certain time periods, selling spirit wear, art supplies, and other special items. This change is a result of our need to adhere to district nutritional guidelines, which do not support the sale of candy. The decision was difficult, since many students love the shack and it was a long-standing HMS tradition. However, HMS was the last school in the district to distribute candy to students, which was counter to current wellness trends. Additionally, there is not a space set aside for the Shack at the new HMS.

The Shack was a source of revenue for our PTO, so the PTO will be looking to other fundraising opportunities, so that it can continue to fund WWII Day, Visiting Authors, Greek Museum, and extracurricular activities such as the musical. If you have fundraising suggestions or are looking for other volunteer opportunities, please email our PTO. If you have other questions about The Shack, please contact Rocky May, Assistant Principal.
