Halloween Guidelines at HMS

Please be aware that Hinsdale Middle School does not specifically observe Halloween or encourage students to wear costumes, although they are allowed. If a student dresses in a costume they must follow the guidelines below.

  • No Props – such as brooms, wands, knives, etc.
  • No Masks
  • No Fake Blood
  • No Aerosol Cans or Silly String
  • Normal Footwear
  • Limited Face Make-up… We need the ability to identify the student.
  • School Appropriate Costume – Non-Offensive – No longer than ankle length
  • Hats – Only if it goes with the costume
  • Make-up and Hair Spray needs to be applied BEFORE arriving at school.
  • Candy and treats should not be brought to school or provided at school due to state food guidelines.

Students will be referred to the office who have not followed the guidelines listed above, and run the risk of being asked to change.

Please contact Mr. May, Assistant Principal, if you have any questions or concerns.

Opt-In for District Text Alerts

HMS uses the public announcement module in our Skyward program called School Messenger/Skylert to keep you informed with important event reminders, as well as transportation, weather and safety alerts. You are most likely receiving HMS and D181 alerts and announcements via email already. If you would also like to receive text messages for these alerts, please be sure to use the opt-in procedure:

Text to 67587
Message ‘Y’ or ‘YES’
Hit Send

Please note: SchoolMessenger/Skylert sends text messages via Short Message Service (SMS). Not all cell phones support this type of text messaging. Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply. Text the word “STOP” to opt-out of D181/HMS text messages at any time. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

D86 referendum information night – October 17th

On November 6th, voters in the D86 district will be asked to approve a referendum for $166 million for significant repairs on both Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South High Schools. The Hinsdalean is hosting an information night at the Community House on October 17th from 7:00 – 8:30 pm with Superintendent Bruce Law and Board Members Jennifer Planson and Nancy Pollak.

PURPOSE OF REFERENDUM: Mandatory safety, security, infrastructure, and accessibility improvements. In addition to the mandatory improvements, the use of funds include pool repair and improvement, library, classroom, STEM, special ed and performing arts facilities renovations. The projects in the referendum were identified by hundreds of people—community members, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, Board members and industry experts—for over three years.
