Final Reminder: Order School Supplies By June 8

Order deadline is June 8. Supplies will be delivered to students homes prior to Back To School Day so that they may be brought to school and put in lockers on that day. Please note that the PTO will not have any kits available after the order deadline expires. Students who do not order by the June 8 deadline will need to purchase their supplies independently.

* Fee Waiver Students – if your student is eligible for tuition assistance through D181 you may be able to apply for a free supply kit to be provided for you. Please contact Sally Cuchna in the school office to discuss eligibility.

Each kit includes some items that teachers request be brought to school and given to your child’s advisory teacher. These items are different for each grade but typically include such items as tissues, wet wipes etc. These items are listed on the school website in the school supplies list by grade.

Instructions for placing orders:

Go to the Educational Products link provided and enter the school ID ‘HIN022’. You will be taken to a webpage where you can purchase supply kits by grade and some other items that your child may need depending on their class assignments. Please review these items below and which classes they are required for.

Spanish or French Dictionary – order if you have an incoming 6th grader or your child needs to replace a dictionary.

Calculator (TI30XIIS) – 7th and 8th graders in Common Core math only who need to replace a lost calculator. 6th graders have a calculator already included in their supply kit.

Graphing Calculator (TI 84) – 7th or 8th graders enrolled in Algebra I. This would be 7th graders who are enrolled in Accelerated math or 8th graders enrolled in Advanced math.

Reading Lab Kit – Only students who will be enrolled in Reading Lab need purchase this kit.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month – The Parent List Resource

Has your child received professional support for an emotional, developmental, learning or health issue this past school year? (i.e. anxiety, depression, school avoidance, eating disorder, peer relations, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, autism spectrum, processing disorders, insomnia, migraines, grief…)

Would you recommend to another parent the service provider that has helped your child? Service providers can include doctors, therapists, tutors, counselors, nutritionists, support groups, in-patient and out-patient services.

Generating a review takes less than 5 minutes, is completely anonymous, and may help a local parent find help for their child in the future.

Thank you!

No Parking or Day Time Traffic on North Side of HMS on June 1st

On Friday, June 1st, Hinsdale Middle School plans to go outside and enjoy one of our last days of school. HMS will have a dunk tank and ice cream trucks outside, and hopefully enjoy a warm June day. We would like to have no cars drive through or park in our North parking lot, often called “2nd Street”  or the Dolphin Door, during the school day.

HMS would allow normal pick up and drop off before school. For quick stops, 3rd Street can be used during the day. Our faculty will be parking on the North side of 3rd between Garfield and Park, and the West side of Park between 1st and 3rd. This plan has been approved by the village, and we wanted you to be aware.

Back To School Day is Friday, August 17th

Save the Date for Back To School Day on Friday, August 17th! During this open house event, middle school students and their parents will be able to pick up their class schedules and bus route information, as well as ‘walk’ their new schedules. Students can bring in their pre-ordered school supplies and set up their lockers. They can also pick up pre-ordered science goggles, hall/gym locks and P.E. uniforms. These items will also be available to purchase (cash or check only).

The school nurse will be present to collect medications, medication forms and completed sports physicals for all students. Entering sixth grade students should turn in their required physicals then.

Returning 7th and 8th graders should bring the following items so they are ready for the first day of school; red hall lock, blue gym lock, gym uniform, calculator and French or Spanish dictionary.

The PTO will be selling a brand new line of Spirit Wear, as well as taking PTO registrations and offering opportunities to sign up for various committees. The PTO accepts cash, check or credit card.

Suggested time frames for each grade to visit HMS are below. Lines tend to be the longest at the beginning of each grade’s time frame slot, so feel free to arrive a bit later if your schedule allows.

8:30 am – 10:00 am: 8th graders
10:00 am – 11:30 am: 7th graders
11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Stations will be closed
12:30 pm – 2:30 pm: 6th graders

Please note that students should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Families that have a conflict visiting HMS during the recommended grade level time slot may stop by during one of the other listed times.

Questions? Please email BackToSchool@hmspto.org. We look forward to seeing you at HMS on Friday, August 17th!
