Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is May 7th-11th

Schools are celebrating National Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week this week. Let’s say thank you to all of our wonderful crossing guards, teachers, staff and administration. On Monday, May 7th please thank your crossing guards, have your child give them a card or do whatever you feel would let them know you value them standing in the rain, snow and sleet to get your child safely across the street. All next week we are doing small things for the entire HMS staff and hosting a luncheon on Wednesday. Please sign up to donate items if you would like to do so. Also, have your child write a nice note, give your teacher a flower from your garden or show your appreciation however you see fit.

Thank you to all of the parents and PTO members for making this a truly special week for our very deserving staff and teachers! We are also asking our school community of Twitter users to celebrate with a hashtag #ThankaTeacher and share with @ccsd181.

PTO Seeking a Few More Committee Chairs for Next School Year

There are just a few PTO Committee Chair positions that are still open for the 2018-19 school year. Some of these require only a minimal time commitment. If you are interested in running one of the committees below or have any questions, please contact Alice Waverley at president@hmspto.org.

Back To School Day – Scheduled for Friday, August 17, 2018. We have one chair and are looking for 1 more co-chair to organize stations and volunteers for this day when students pick up their schedules, buy locks and spirit wear, set up their lockers, etc

Book Fair – Organize the book fair, which is held in March. Work closely with the MRC Director and staff the event. We currently have 1 chair and are looking for 1-2 more co-chairs.

Gardening – Take care of planting greenery in seasonal pots at the new HMS building. Will not take effect until January 2019.

Hospitality – Provide light refreshments a few times a year for events such as: Back to School Day, Curriculum Night, 5th Grade Parent Night and 1-2 PTO meetings. All expenses will be reimbursed.

Lost and Found – Periodically organize and donate items left at school.

SELAS/Service – Looking for one Service chair to organize 1-2 small service project opportunities for students, often coordinated with 8th grade Student Council. We already have a chairperson coordinating the SELAS portion with Student Support Services.
