Family Trivia Night Fundraiser

We hope everyone is looking forward to the Family Trivia Night Fundraiser on Friday, February 24, 2017. We are hopeful this fundraiser, which is the only fundraiser we will host this school year, will meet most everyone’s needs by bringing families and staff out for a fun night while raising money for our PTO.

Tickets are expected to go on sale in the next week. Look for a special invitation soon. We will have limited seating, so please purchase your tickets early.

We still have a need for business sponsors. If you or someone you know would like to be a sponsor, please contact Janet Lahr at vpfunding@hmspto.org

Opt-In for School and District Text Message Alerts

District 181 now offers the opportunity for parents and staff to opt-in for text messages from the District and D181 schools. These texts will be limited to three types of important messages: (1) Transportation Alerts (e.g., bus delays), (2) Weather Alerts (e.g., snow days), and (3) Safety Alerts (e.g., power outage). Receiving a text is a fast and easy way to help ensure you don’t miss an e-mail with this type of timely news. Texts will be sent via SchoolMessenger, the same notification system used for automated e-mails and phone calls. To opt-in, simply text the word “YES” to 67587 from your cell phone number currently on file with the District, and be sure that you receive the auto-confirmation text that will be sent in response. If you need to add a cell phone number to the system, or if the number needs to be updated, that step will need to be completed first. Click here to view the one-page FAQ with information on that process and further detail regarding text messages from D181.

The NEW HMS Curriculum

PTO meetingHow is the math curriculum changing and how will it vary by level? What is happening with regular and ACE social studies? How will the new science standards change what our children learn in science? What are the planned changes for LA and ELA and how will these classes be integrated with social studies and science? What is the common assessment framework and how will it affect our students?

Learn the answers to these questions and more as HMS Department Chairs Bill Eggert, Shannon Donovan, Amy Ostrowski, and Cheryl Petrou discuss our School Improvement Plan, highlighting curriculum and assessment changes at our next PTO meeting, Wednesday, December 14th at 9am in the MRC.
