Thank you for supporting the HMS/Whole Foods Fundraising Day!

A big thank you to all our HMS families for shopping and getting the work out to our community about our Whole Foods Fundraising Day on October 18th! Because of you the HMS PTO raised just over $3000 that will directly go back to assisting our children and school!

Halloween Guidelines at HMS

Please be aware that Hinsdale Middle School does not specifically observe Halloween or encourage students to wear costumes, although they are allowed. If a student dresses in a costume they must follow the guidelines below.

  • No Props – such as brooms, wands, knives, etc.
  • No Masks
  • No Fake Blood
  • No Aerosol Cans or Silly String
  • Normal Footwear
  • Limited Face Make-up… We need the ability to identify the student.
  • School Appropriate Costume – Non-Offensive – No longer than ankle length
  • Hats – Only if it goes with the costume
  • Make-up and Hair Spray needs to be applied BEFORE arriving at school.
  • Candy and treats should not be brought to school or provided at school due to state food guidelines.

Students will be referred to the office who have not followed the guidelines listed above, and run the risk of being asked to change.

Please contact Mr. May, Assistant Principal, if you have any questions or concerns.

Opt-In for District Text Alerts

HMS uses the public announcement module in our Skyward program called School Messenger/Skylert to keep you informed with important event reminders, as well as transportation, weather and safety alerts. You are most likely receiving HMS and D181 alerts and announcements via email already. If you would also like to receive text messages for these alerts, please be sure to use the opt-in procedure:

Text to 67587
Message ‘Y’ or ‘YES’
Hit Send

Please note: SchoolMessenger/Skylert sends text messages via Short Message Service (SMS). Not all cell phones support this type of text messaging. Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply. Text the word “STOP” to opt-out of D181/HMS text messages at any time. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Parent Teacher Conference Times Open Monday 10 AM

On Monday, Oct. 22 at 10 AM, you will have access to schedule your student(s)’ Parent-Teacher conference(s) through Skyward Family Access. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from 2-8 PM on Monday, Nov. 19 and 8 AM-2 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Individual conferences are Monday from 5 – 8 PM, and Tuesday from 8 – 11 AM. Please note that sign-ups for conferences will close Monday, Nov. 5. Doing so will allow our teachers to prepare materials for your child’s conference, and help them be fully prepared.

Once you login to Skyward, you will see the conference option(s) for your student(s).  Please follow this link to see the directions.

One important addition to the instructions you should have received on the morning of Friday, October 19: Please do not sign up for more than two individual five minute conferences right away. If a large number of parents sign up for six or seven time slots each, we will very quickly run out of them, and give a much smaller group of parents the ability to meet with teachers. All time slots will be scheduled, and many teachers will ultimately have all of their time slots taken, but we want to be as fair and equitable as possible. Parents who have been invited to Team Conferences are reminded to NOT sign up for Individual Conferences, since you will have access to teachers provided through the Team format.

Please contact the HMS office if you have any questions.
