2022 HMS BookFair!

The HMS Book Fair is back this year and we need volunteers! Parent volunteers are needed 11/16, 11/17, 11/18. Parent volunteers are also needed 11/21 and 11/22 during Parent/Teacher conferences. Sign up HERE.

Read the volunteer requirements below:
* Check in at the main entrance of the school with an ID for the Safe Visitor check-in.
* The first shift of volunteers should arrive at 8:00 a.m. to get an overview of what to do.
* The book fair HOURS are 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Wednesday, 11/16, Thursday, 11/17 and Friday, 11/18 and during P/T conferences (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) on Monday 11/21 and Tuesday, 11/22.

Staff Appreciation Potluck – Monday, Nov. 21st!

The Staff Appreciation Committee is organizing a potluck for teachers and staff Monday evening, Nov. 21st during conference. They do get a dinner break! This is a personal way to show our gratitude. Please consider contributing a dish by signing up HERE. A dish can be store bought or home cooked. Some suggested items are salads, fruit salad, pasta salad, potatoes, sandwiches, pulled pork, casseroles, pizza, quiches, a favorite ethnic dish! Questions email staffapp@hmspto.org. HMS LOST AND FOUND NEEDS FINDERS!

Our lost and found items are overflowing! Books, pencil cases, planners and more are in the cabinets under the drop-off cubbies in the main entrance foyer off the upper deck parking lot. All lunch boxes, bags and water bottles are on a shelf outside the Cafetorium. Many items of clothing including PE clothes are on a rack outside the Cafetorium. We are reminding students in our morning announcements to retrieve their items. ALL items without names or not collected will be donated right before winter break. Come find your stuff!!

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books registration is happening now. Students may participate individually or on teams of up to four members. Competitions will begin the week of January 9th and run weekly from January through March. Competitions will be offered Thursdays at 7:45 am and 3:20 pm, and Fridays at 7:45 am and 3:20 pm. Participants will choose one of those four time slots to attend weekly.

Students should check their email for the registration link and list of this year’s book selections. Please email dscacco@d181.org with any questions.

HMS PTO E-Blast!

This weekly newsletter is a perk of the HMS PTO membership. Please make sure you are have registered by November 1, 2022 for the 22-23 year in order to continue receiving the E-Blast. If you have not yet joined, login to School Pay, select “non profit groups,” then HMS PTO membership and check out. It’s quick and easy and only $40 per family per year allows HMS PTO to enhance your child’s curriculum and to bring the HMS Community together.

PTO Meeting featuring Dr. Kasia Kula on Executive Functioning

Please join us at our General PTO meeting on Friday, November 4th from 9:30am-10:30am. featuring Dr. Kasia Kula, our amazing school psychologist, on Executive Functioning (ahem, why your kid can’t keep their room clean, forgets their homework, and just overall digging into the pre-teen/teen mind!). Potbelly Fundraiser – Tuesday, Nov. 1st!
